She walks around in high heels, strutting her flawless body. She peers at all of the women, young and old, with a mocking laugh in her eyes. She whispers eerily, “You’ll never be me. You can’t be, but you’ll die trying.”
Women spend thousands to be like her, to look like her, to have what she has, only to come up empty-handed every time. They go to extremes or give up entirely, desperate to find a balance.
They see her on the cover of magazines, on the runway, or even in the crowds of people they know. You’ll never be me. You can’t be. is the echo that screams louder and louder in their mind. As they try on clothes, go to the gym, eat that piece of cake, or try to cover their flaws, all they can hear is that voice telling them they’ll never be her.
For she, is perfection.
She makes every woman her slave who bows down to her. She has no care or concern for the lives destroyed that try to become her. Eating disorders, self-injury, self-hate – and the list goes on. So many lives ended because of the devastating realization that perfection isn’t reachable.
Ladies – Why do we allow this voice to have a place in our lives? Why do we give her credence?
Our flaws are what make us human. They are what make us lovable. Perfection, however, has no friends. She is alone except for those in her grasp.
May we be women who encourage each other to reach for a higher standard without being misguided in our desires. Perfection isn’t a goal, it’s a devastating myth.
And it’s one that has destroyed far too many lives.
Don’t ever become slave to perfection. She will take you down a road you don’t want to go down and she will keep you longer than you ever wanted to stay.
Reader, you are loved. You are beautiful. And you were created for a purpose that only you can fulfill. Don’t ever forget that.
