Whirlwind

She stood there, in a whirlwind. Time seemed to slow down and speed up all at the same time. The phone call, the heartbreak, the facts.

Her normal was no longer normal. In fact, what had once turned her world upside-down, was now what she missed.

She missed the hustle and bustle of getting little ones ready, making sure they had eaten, and were off to school safely. She missed coming home to little arms squeezing her tightly with sticky, crayon-covered hands. She missed the noise and the need to tiptoe down the hallway, as to not wake sleeping little ones.

The home felt empty, too big even. The silence was near deafening. The mornings were too quiet and the evenings were too long.

Her heart felt empty, as though someone she loved had moved on. She knew from that moment forward, there would always be a special place in her heart for Little and Littlest, that no one else would ever be able call their own.

For it was their’s, and forever will be.
