True Love

Lately, I’ve been thinking about “love” and what that really means. Today’s society has such a messed up view of what love is, that I wanted to look more into what God says about love. I mean, if you want to know the truth, go to the Creator of love, right?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Love never dies.

Now, what we know according to 1 John 4:8 is that “God is love.” And thus, it is safe to say that God has all of these qualities within Him. The way He treats us, is in line with the above definition of love. And thus, when we look at John 3:16 which says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.” we can then see even furthermore, that God loved us so much, that He was willing to die and sacrifice His own life, so we could live. Not only did he sacrifice His life, but He rose again in victory over death! No longer do we need to suffer from the pain and sorrow of death. We have been set free from the hopelessness that death brings! His sacrifice ransomed us from ever needing to experience true death. We have a hope, a future, and a purpose!

Now that my friends, is a love worth investing in. It’s a love worth fighting for. It’s a love worth trusting in. I’m so thankful Jesus fought for me and pursued me, even when I didn’t deserve it. That is the true definition of unconditional love.

May we always strive to love others with HIS kind of love!
